The main point of the Allocutio is to enhance the spiritual growth of each legionary and to inspire legionaries to be diligent in their legionary assignments and duties as well as to strive to be focused on a continuous improvement in our union with God, assisted by the maternal love of Mary his most faithful helper. During the first several years of a praesidium, it should take the shape of a commentary upon the legion handbook with the object of making the members familiar with the points contained therein. Thereafter, the Allocutio, may be supplemented with other appropriate Catholic Church sources such as works by Venerable Fulton J. Sheen and others in the ongoing effort to be effective Apostles.
The Allocutio is the foundation of the spiritual growth of the praesidium or council for it gives focus and theme to the legion apostolate. In the rapidly increasing shortage of priests and with a large portion of our current priests nearing retirement age, the active legionary is called to be diligent in his or her preparation and giving of Allocutios faithful to the legion and its principles.
The Allocutio plays an important part in the development of the members and should take into consideration the Church calendar (Feast days of Saints and Mary e.g.) and incorporate such events into the Allocutio; a verse or two from the Scriptures can help make a point.
In the event of the absence of the Spiritual Director, the Allocutio should be made by the President or by any member designated by the President. The human element of the Allocutio gives it authenticity and bears fruit; therefore speak from your heart and soul.
